Imago is a theory based on the idea that experiences from childhood strongly influence how we see the world.  These childhood experiences are stored in our unconscious and we are not aware that they influence our adult decisions.  How they influence us can be seen in the partners we choose.  We choose people that have both the positive and negative traits of our childhood caregivers, which is called our Imago.  Imago means "image" in Latin - it is the image of love we grew up with.  So, we choose people that fit our ideal image of love, which is based on our Imago.

When we first fall in love we feel safe with our partner and know we have found the perfect life companion.  We may say things like:  "I feel like I have known you forever."  or "We have so much in common."  or "We are perfect together."   But love can be very confusing.  One moment we are falling in love with a partner who we imagine will make our life exciting and full of possibility.  Later we find ourselves locked in a cycle of arguments, almost losing sight of what we first saw in them!

Imago illuminates the purpose of love and answers the question "How can something so wonderful turn into something so painful?" It teaches couples how to get back to feeling the love they have lost sight of.  It is a series of dialogue-based exercises that help couples understand why they were attracted to one another, and why those reasons drew them into a cycle of disagreement that is called the power struggle.  Imago teaches that this power struggle is a natural part of relationship.  Through the Intentional Dialogue couples discover that the power struggle has a purpose: to help both people grow, and together experience the deep joy of true love.

Fall in love all over again at the Imago weekend workshop for couples. Whether you are in the early days of blissful romance, or on the edge of break-up, join the tens of thousands of couples who have experienced a wonderful change in their relationship, just from this one weekend experience.
